Professional interview: Digital design

Professional Interview: Digital design
Person being interviewed: Lisa Mitchell of Norfolk, NE

What do you do for a job that involves digital design?
I make posters, business cards, logos, invitations, newsletters, brochures and powerpoint presentation. This would be a side business to make extra income, but may lead to a full time position some day.

How do you use digital design in the job? Examples.
I make business cards and take personal pictures to incorporate in a variety of media. I also use digital design in development of a wide variety of publications or documents for customers. I use digital design in my powerpoint presentations to produce a quality product.

What program do you use to make your digital design logos?
Microsoft Publisher, HP Design, Kodak, and Adobe Photoshop.

What does it take to be good and creative at digital design?
A person needs to know how to use the programs. They also need a good eye for color and aesthetics. Attention to detail is necessary to pick out subtle changes. You need to have the ability to envision what the client is wanting and good communication skills are important.

Why is digital design important for your career?
Although I only use this part time, knowing the programs and how to use them saves a lot of time verses doing it all by hand. You can take a mediocre presentation and enhance it to make it better, more appealing and affective.

What inspires you to have a career in digital design?
I enjoy using my computer skills and creativity to create projects that are useful and enjoyed by others.
